DRIVER’S COURSE
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
C category driver’s licence acquired!
Onward to CE! (for those outside the EU, CE is for trucks with trailers)
+25% ramming power
+20% turning radius
+50% stressful driving experience
I hadn’t mentioned this before, but we occasionally get to go home for the weekends so I’ve had the opportunity to feel the difference between a truck and a car and mark down some thoughts on the differences.

Jesus christs are trucks noisy. Aside from the engine noise, there’s also the fact that there’s an abundance of pneumo-systems in trucks.
Pressing down the clutch? PSSSSHHHHHHHHH
Switching gears? PSSHHH
Brakes? Handbrake? PSSSHHHHHHH
Stalling the engine? PSSSSHHHKKRRGGGKKRWwwrrKKRRRggrrrrrrrrpsssshhhhhhhhhhhh
And then there’s the tendency to vent air REALLY FRAKIN LOUDLY at random moments.

It’s nice to make turns without having to first block half the intersection because of your turn radius and nervously watch the mirrors so that you’re not running over the sidewalk with your rear wheels. I saw the other day a truck that that the misfortune of making a right at a roundabout way too tiny for it and since the edge of the road was not bordered by a solid curb but by a series of bolted-down bricks instead, the truck’s rear wheels had gotten stuck between two such bricks and it couldn’t get out.
—
You get sloshed about a lot in the cabin of a truck. Makes sense, given how high you are from the surface of the road. It seems like no matter how smooth and flat the road is, you’ll always be swaying back and forth, side-to-side. It’s annoying and not at all conductive to driving straight
—
Cars have such pleasantly tiny wheels. And snappy acceleration and braking. It’s the kind of things one does not usually think about….but they truly are a delight to drive after experiencing the sluggishness of their bigger brethren.
