I was reading up on this technique (using a slicker brush right on the crochet stitches to loosen up the fibers), what yarns are better/worse for it, and one of the tips was to brush all the individual pieces before sewing them all together. And of course I had to be like NAH I'll do all the brushing at the end. That was a mistake, haha. It ended up taking more time trying to wedge the brush in around the legs and such! I'll do it the right way next time
Business has been really slow this year and I don't know why! I've only had commissions for 5 dolls all year which is what's given me time to fill up my Etsy. I post photos of all my etsy stock on places like Instagram, tumblr, twitter, etc. with links and that gets some attention sometimes (mostly on Instagram). What I've been meaning to do is make like a shop-specific instagram account, so that it's all dolls with nothing else. Right now they're mixed in with my other IG photos which mostly consist of my cats, lol. The only reason I haven't made the second account yet is because I haven't settled on a name. I want to change it from SandyKatKrochet to something... I don't know, a little more established sounding? The SKK name kind of makes me think of a lemonade stand, haha. Lately, I've been thinking of something maybe like "The ____ Collection". But I don't know what word to stick in there. I've got a shop-specific tumblr which is just called stitchc4t.tumblr.com (named so because my regular tumblr is s4ndc4t).
I can't imagine why, it seems like since you're such a great artist you should be popular just in that merit! Well I've been taking my Axel doll to cons and he's a huge hit! I hope that's gotten you some business! I'll keep on promoting you until I can't physically move anymore because I love your stuff and you deserve it!
I can't wait to try this fuzzy technique out on more yarns! I made two little sample pieces before this - two little half spheres. Both were acrylic yarns. One was what I used here, and the other was my go-to yarn for most things I make. The go-to was a little bit stiffer and might be good for like wirehair coats. I want to find something that'll brush out even fluffier than this! :D Really opens up a slew of new possibilities! I'd love to replace my old method of fluffing with this method. This one uses way less yarn. Less bulky overall. And it seems like a great way to add just a wisp of hair somewhere if I wanted something subtle.
I actually had yorkie on my list of ideas when I went to Pittsburgh for AC (and was there for three weeks)! I never got around to it, did the bunnies instead, but yorkies are still at the forefront of things I might do soon.
And aww I'm glad everyone's liking Axel! Thank you so much for the promoting! I'm so grateful for every person who has commissioned me or bought something from the shop, liked or shared a photo, left a review or comment. I couldn't have cultivated the skill level that I have so far without all the support!
