This happened to me as well. I crawled through the first book, which only picked up in like, the third act, and then I got to the second and just gave up.

And you know what's weird? I blazed through The Hobbit. I really liked it, in fact.

Wow, you went as far as the second book! Mine was like this:

It's 2002, the new LOTR movie is comming out (and Harry Potter), so naturally those two books are all the hype in school. I had already read Harry Potter, so i decided to find out what LOTR is about. My father sees me taking the book to my room and he's like:
- Thats a very long book, you sure you wanna read it?
- Yeah yeah i'm sure.

So i start reading some ramblings about how hobbits are actually not that tall, yet shorter than the tall of the short and Bilbo likes to go out and abbr fdj hfdggd eii ghsssss... and then i wake up 2 hours later, quietly put the book back where i took it from and that was it.

SPARKLE SPARKLE that's the only chapter I read and it kinda set the decision in stone that I will never look at that shit again.

I didn't even get that far. ;-;

My roommate wasn't able to get past more than a few pages. I haven't attempted to read it though -- I've never been a big fan of the vampire genre ... especially 'romance vampires'.
