I volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium for the sole purpose of getting to know this guy. He's growing so big - about 2 hand-widths now. Presenting to you his best side, sleeping on the glass, via my crappy cell phone picture.
The Giant Pacific Octopus is the longest-lived: 3-5 years, although they've had 5 since they opened the aquarium 4 years ago. This is the first male they've had. You can tell by that brighter orange squiggly end in the middle. It's his hectocotylus - the end of the right third arm has no suckers and is much thicker and has a slit for inserting his manly presents into the female. The Aquarium gets their GPOs from the Oregon coast. I don't know his name but the first one was Tako and at the Tennesee Aquarium they have Wonton. heehee

So... many... suckers! Nice shot, came out well for a cell phone pic.
I'm not sure what kind of Octopus we have over here at the Monteray Bay Aquarium, I just know he always seems to hide in the crevices where you can barely see him (I blame all the people who can't seem to understand the "Please no camera flash" sign)

That did occur to me (shortly after I wrote the post, no less); I'm usually there around lunchtime, so it's probably trying to sleep.
Still, no excuse for people to let the flashbulbs fly (jokes on them, though; all they're going to get in the pic is their reflection in the glass).

I didn't know you lived in Georgia! Me too!
I've been wanting to go to the Georgia Aquarium for so long since it opened. I really want to just take some friends on a road trip from Savannah to the GA Aquarium. A large group of my friends went recently on a band trip and absolutely LOVED IT (even though I believe they said the penguin exhibit was being renovated). But I digress, I really need to go see this little guy. He's so cute! XD

Woohoo for THE most awesome creature on earth!
I have been preparing to keep one at my home since half a year now... It's been a bit tricky, getting a structural analyst finding the right spot for a 210 GAL tank.
I'm planning to install a webcam that can livestream from a waterproof acrylic box inside the tank
Also https://www.tonmo.com is THE place to go if you are interested in anything ceph related, if anyone likes to know more about these awesome animals.

Awesomeness! Hey, did you ever get that Oktapodi I sent you? If not, click the link and watch it, in high quality. It's adorable!!!
Oh mon Dieu! You met an enteroctopus dofleini in person!!! *squeals like a teen talking about her favorite actor* it's so awesome!!! ^^
Thank a lot for sharing the photo! That should have been such a cool encounter! Also cool you were volunteered on the aquarium! I would love to heart your experience meeting him, if it's not a bother.
They are my favorite animal, octopi in general, and I have never had the pleasure to see one.
By the way, I love your artwork! It's so cute and gorgeous!!! ^^ your cephalopod drawings are the most beautiful things I've seen in my life!

I don't remember much of this guy to be honest - it was 10 years ago - but I had an even better experience! At the Tennessee Aquarium I got to meet their big GPO. It was so great. It was like I was being sized up and found interesting enough to not let go of. It was a thrilling interaction for sure! If you can find an aquarium with one, they're hours of entertainment (as long as they're not asleep).
And thank you!! :)
