So this is just a quick file I mixed together... I need your honest opinions, everyone, please...
First and foremost, I need to know if there's too much "static" or "background noise", here... My audio input, despite being better than it was, still records at ridiculously low levels, so I have to amplify these things before I can submit them, otherwise you'd need your speakers turned all the way up to hear them.
Secondly, I need to know if you can notice the lyrics falling out of time near the end of the song; that is, they seem to come in just a bit too early, whereas in the rest of the song they're not. I didn't make any adjustments to this one- I just recorded it, mixed it, and now I'm submitting it.
I need to know if I'm obsessing over things that aren't there, or if you can all hear these problems, too. *Sighs* This whole thing just isn't going as well as I'd planned....

Yeah, the biggest problem with recording at low volumes, as you said, is that when you turn it up post-recording, you end up bringing the noise floor with the main signal, which gives you that hiss. Once you do get your mix-down timing issues worked out, I'd suggest looking into getting a couple pre-amps for your mic and whatever instruments you use. I like https://www.musiciansfriend.com and https://www.samash.com the most, so I'd suggest looking there. Especially right around now with the holidays coming up, you might be able to find some pretty good deals.
Also, if I might ask, the program you use for mixing, does it allow you to import the individual track files, or do they have to be recorded directly in, including overdubs?

*Noddles* I love musiciansfriend... Though I find it best that I don't go there. It only tortures me so. *Snickerwoofs* ^^
The program permits me to import the files, yes. *Nods a bit* I've actually never recorded and mixed all with the same program. *Shrugs* I suppose I'm just an old-fashioned dog. I just record with one program, and then import them to another solely for mixing and such. ^^

Hey, I hear ya, man. Ideally, I like to record analog and mixdown in ProTools. That's the best way to do it! Unfortunately, my comp just isn't powerful enough to run ProTools to the extent I'd demand it (not to mention I just can't afford ProTools for the time being), so I'm stuck right now with my little 8-track digital recorder, putting it through a rough mix on the recorder into one stereo track, then importing the files into my WavePad editor on my computer to try to EQ everything at once. Pain in my ass sometimes... ><
I've often thought of getting a little digital multi-track recorder, m'self... But then I always assumed why bother when I could just do it on the computer. *Flicks an ear* We see how well that's going, of course.
*Muses* Life's out to get us poor musicians, isn't it? *Snickerwoofs*
