(Don't worry, Oxnard is alive and well)
Sometimes, for rat owners, it's said that a rat crosses your path that you develop a particularly strong bond with. These are "heart rats". They don't happen all the time. They're to be treasured.
Oxnard is the heart rat of my life. I didn't even plan on getting rats the day that I saw him in the pet store (I wasn't prepared whatsoever and only had an old cage for him); his little face looked at me and that was it, I knew he was my Oxnard immediately.
There has never been a time when looking over at him in his cage didn't cause me to smile, no matter what he's doing. He's got such a round, innocent face, and he's always so excited to see me. I say, "Oxie!" and if he's sleeping he will hop up and come to the bars eager to see me. When I hold and pet him in my lap, he bruxes and boggles his eyes (a sign of extreme happiness in a rat).
Losing his cagemate Cricket, and him being the only rat I had for a while caused us to become really close I think; he was lonely, and cuddling and playing with me was the highlight of his day.
So I thought about what he'd be like if I was my fursona, and I guarantee he'd do shit like this. XD he's so goofy and careless.
I thought I'd share him with all of you, since my rats are a big part of my life <3 some of my commission earnings go towards keeping him and my other 5 rats happy and healthy, allows me to buy them fresh fruit and veggies and etc... I'm really grateful for it.
Some pics of him:

Very touching and cute! When I get my own place I wanna try to plan on getting either a goat or sheep as a pet, sure they do seem like a very weird and goofy animal buy from what I've read I hear they can get REALLY attached to their owner and are very loyal and compassionate as well. I mean how cool would a pet sheep be like could you imagine raising it up big and house training it and hanging out on the couch watching TV and stuff so when you get tired you can lay down on your living breathing pillow of softness ^u^
yeah I really want a pet sheep or a goat would be cool to~

oh really? I didn't know that about goats. I really like goats/sheep <3 we have someone who has a herd of them in our area, big fluffy ones with big horns, and I love going to visit them.
lol that does sound amazing but can sheep learn to use a litter box?? XD

He was this huge admittedly chubby Siamese rat, very friendly and he'd sit with me for hours. It's been years and I still miss him. I've had many rats, they all had something special but Ivar was ky once in a lifetime.
Sorry to derail the comments on your art xD ! This just spoke to me a lot.

thank you so much :'33
I haven't had a lot of experience with losing them, since I only had 2 girls before these guys when I was younger who I was not very attached to... and then lost one to a freak accident, so that didn't really count. A lot of people say this, and maybe I'll feel the same way someday... You'll never know how amazing they really are until you own them. It's hard to understand unless you're a rat owner.

Oh yes. Peeing is a primary form a non-verbal communication among rats. They tell each other everything using urine. Go here, good food there, my nest, mean rats live here, danger, don't go this way! So yes, if they're peeing on you, it's telling all the other rats, "This is my human, and I love them very much!"
Rats are the best <3 I love all mine so dearly I don't think I could pick out a particular heart rat! I think my girl, Rose, would be :3 She just turned 2 in June, and she just the sweetest old lady. I worry about her more now though because of her age. I've lost 4 rats before her (her sister, Opal, absolute heart rat, passed immediately following a successful surgery to remove a breast lump), and it's so heart wrenching to think about losing Rose... it kills my heart to think about losing ANY of my ratties. To me, my rats are my children so... I can't really pick a favorite!
They're also recognized therapy animals :3

I totally get that ^w^ I do love all of mine, of course, very dearly. but Oxnard was the first, and we went through the early sudden death of his cagemate together and I guess it just bonded us more strongly than usual.
But yes, rats are amazing animals. The fact that they are so individual still amazes me... I mean, there's billions, maybe trillions of rats on the planet, and they are all still so very unique in their personalities and quirks. It's just so interesting to me. People who don't know rats think that they all act the same and do not have individual personalities... and that's just SO far from the truth... Getting to know and enjoy their personalities is like my favorite thing.
