Tilla poked at her plate with her fork. The meal had been delicious, as always. And, as always, it had been far too large for her. Whatever she didn’t eat would be thrown out. She hated the thought of food going to waste, especially while city folk just on the other side of the thick castle walls starved, but she just couldn’t finish a meal this size by herself. She sighed and set down her fork.

“You are finished, princess?” Tilla’s maidservant asked.

Before Tilla had a chance to answer, there was a loud crash. She could hear screaming and shouting coming from outside her room. A second crash came, closer this time, and the floor shook. Tilla managed to drop down and cover her head just in time for the stone wall of her room to collapse, sending debris and dust everywhere. She heard her maidservant scream as a rock hit her in the forehead, knocking her out.

Tilla felt something snatch the fur at the nape of her neck and lift her into the air, and a moment later, Tilla found herself face to face with a very large dragon. The dragon licked her lips, and Tilla swallowed nervously. This did not look good.
