New Life Pet Shop
By born2beagator and boitin
Kyle was a rather lonely college grad. The six foot 26 year old lived alone, no job...no one to keep him company. He ran his hand through his sandy brown hair before walking into the mall. He was going to the pet shop today...he wanted, no needed a dog to share his life with. Walking in, he was met by the shopkeeper.
“Hello what can I do for you!” The young shopkeeper asked while feeding some crickets to large iguanas.
“Yes...I’m looking for a dog. A dalmatian I think.”
“Ok.. I fear I don’t know any breeder who currently has dalmatian pups to offer. Does it have to be a dalmatian or can it be any other breed?” The shopkeeper asked while tossing one of his black locks out of his face.
“No, I want a dalmation. But it doesn’t have to be a puppy.”
“Sorry bro I don’t know anyone offering a dalmatian, maybe you can ask at the animal shelter?”
Kyle shook his head. “Surely there is something you can do, can’t you order one or something?”
“It doesn't work that way I have to ask if any breeder is expecting a litter and then I may get one or two puppies for the shop. You can’t rush nature”. The man said while restocking some shelves.
“Come on man. It doesn’t have to be a puppy! I just want a dalmation. I live alone, I need a pet.”
“And I already told you….!” The young man stopped mid-sentence. “You want a dalmatian at any cost?” He asked after a long break.
“Yes, I do. I’m so lonely.”
“Well let me check something!” The shopkeeper said before vanishing in the back of the store, before he returned with a dusty book and something to drink for Kyle; ”Here have some I need to check something, take a stroll around the store, for the time.”
Kyle nodded and started walking around the store. He examined the various dog items, and even saw an empty cage with no label. “Wonder what is going to be there?” He asked himself.
“Oh those are for new puppies that will arrive soon!” The shopkeeper suddenly appeared behind him. “Well I just checked and one breeder will maybe give me one of his older pups he didn’t find a place for to sell, but it will take a few days before it arrives.” He said while checking a note on a paper.
Kyle shook his head. “I don’t want a puppy. I want an adult, or at least a year or two old.”
“Yeah should be a bit older than a year!”
“That’s great! I can’t wait to meet him!” Kyle said enthusiastically.
“I am glad to meet such an enthusiastic future pet owner. Here take this toy for your future dog!” The shop owner said.
Kyle took and and stared at it for a moment, confused.
“Is there a problem?” The young man asked Kyle with a smirk.
“I...I want to chew it.” Kyle said blankly.
“It is yours do whatever you like with it.”
He took it and gently started chewing on it. His eyes widened, and he started chewing harder.
“Well I have something else to do, I will call you when he arrives, can you leave me your number?” He wrote it down and handed it to him.
Kyle walked out and headed for home, excited for his future friend.
The shopkeeper watched Kyle walking away before dayling his cell-phone; “Yrs Mr. Thompson? Yes I might have your dog in a few days. Yes a healthy one year old, already perfectly trained. Ok yes see you on friday!”
Kyle opened his door and plopped on his couch. He couldn’t wait three days or however many it would take. He wanted to have fun now!
“Oh Kyle you can have fun, just chew and throw your new toy around!” A voice suddenly cut through his thoughts.
Huh, that made sense. He threw the dog toy onto the floor and stared at it.
“Just jump after it! Push it around with your nose, chew it!”
Before he could stop himself, he found himself on the floor nudging it with his face. He picked it up and started chewing on it, hard. He looked around, he hoped no one was around to take...his. Yes his toy.
“Yes its yours you wont share it with anyone, well maybe with your owner”.
“My owner?” Kyle asked aloud.
“Yes every dog has an owner, who takes care of him”: The voice explained.
An owner did sound nice...but… “Wait, every dog? I’m not a dog.”
“Oh don’t worry boy soon you won’t have to think that way anymore”. But with that the voice was gone, for now.
Kyle yawned and headed up to bed. He stripped and was in the bathroom doing getting ready for bed. His eyes darted to the toilet every now and then as he brushed his teeth.
“Oh water, you are thirsty you need to drink something!” The voice manifested itself again.
“But the kitchen is all the way downstairs…” Kyle said.
“Did I say anything about the kitchen? Look over there you don’t even need to turn your faucets you can lap it out of the toilet!” The voice said.
“That makes sense...the toilet water comes from the same place the faucet water does right?” He found himself on his hands and knees, head above the toilet.
“Good boy, just lap it out of the bowl!; The voice said.
Kyle lowered his head into the bowl and began lapping with his tongue.
“Isn’t that refreshing boy?” The voice asked as Kyle's tongue grew longer a little bit, his ears turning into little points and a small bump started to grow on the small of his back.
“It is!” He stood up and headed to bed, yawning. “I don’t want to go to work tomorrow…”
“Dogs don’t need to work, don’t worry about it anymore boy”. The voice reassured Kyle.
He nodded, and fell asleep.
____________________________________________________________________________
Kyle woke with his alarm. 6 AM. “Arrggghhhh….work.” He started to get up.
“Good morning Kyle, what do you want? To play with your toy again?” The voice asked.
“No...I have to go to work today. I’ll lose my job if I don’t show. I have to pay bills.” Kyle yawned and got up fully.
“Dogs don’t have to pay bills, go and play with your toy or run around and chase your tail!” The voice said.
“The pet shop! I bet my dog is in!” He practically yelled.
“Oh come on lets have some fun!” The voice suggested.
“We can have fun in the pet shop!” He ran to his car and was at the shop in minutes, running in.
The young shop owner was busy feeding all the animals, when Kyle stormed in.
“Is my dog here!?” he asked excitedly.
“Oh I guess so.” The man said as he looked over Kyle whose ears had just started to turn floppy.
“Where is he!?” he asked almost hopping up and down.
“Come this way!” The shopkeeper guided Kyle further back into the shop smiling at the bulge that had started to form in the back of Kyle’s jeans.
Kyle waved his behind back and forth. “Well?”
“Well in here!” The man said showing Kyle a big box.
“I don’t see him!” He said, behind waving faster.
“Oh you have to crawl in!” Kyle nodded and got to his hands and knees, crawling in the large box.
“What now?” He asked happily. The box door was closed by the owner.
This didn’t scare him though. “What now?” he asked again.
“Well now we wait until you are a good dog Kyle:” The shopkeeper answered.
“Until I am a good dog? What are you talking about?” Kyle asked nervously. “What’s going on here! Why am I in a kennel!?”
“Well you were so desperate to get a dog I couldn't get for you so I am turning you into said dog. I already have found a family who is looking for a pet for their young son so I will have a good new home and someone to look after you!” The man explained his plan.
“But….I wanted a dog! I didn’t want to BE a dog!!!” I said frantically, the bulge in his pants wagging again.
“Well there is nothing you can do about it now boy, once started there is no going back!” The man said while filling a bowl with water and slipping it into the kennel.
“Water! Drink! You are thirsty!”
Well the voice had a point. I bent down and started lapping the water up.
The young man smiled as he saw Kyle giving in to his instincts. “Now I have to tend to the rest of the shop, stay put and if you behave I will give you a small present!” He said seeing fine white hair starting to grow on Kyle's arms.
“Wait! I...I want to come with you. I don’t want to be alone.” Kyle said as he felt a massive pressure in his jeans now.
“Sorry thats not possible. I have to clean up and to restock the shelves can’t have a dog sniffing around and scaring the other animals!” The shopkeeper said while taking another look at Kyle, around who’s left eye a patch of black fur manifested.
“No!!! You want to be with him! Be a good dog and maybe he’ll change his mind.”
Kyle sat down and held his hands in front of him limply. “Please? I’ll be good!”
“No, you stay here thats my last word!” The young man replied and left the room.
“No!!!! Bark at him!”
I let out a bark. “Please!!!! Close the shop or something!!!! I’ll be a good dog!”
The shopkeeper didn’t listen, he knew this was a lesson Kyle had to learn, if a dog’s master says stay put then you stay, and he went to do his work.
Kyle lay down in his kennel, the foot long bulge in his pants laying limp on the floor. What had he done? Was he a bad dog? Come to think of it...was he a dog at all?
The hour went by, and as the owner of the store didn’t hear any further whining back from the kennel he now returned as told with some dog snacks and a toy; “Well boy it seems you have learned your lesson!” In the short time Kyle had changed further all of his visible skin was now covered by a soft dusting of white hair with occasional black spots showing here and there.
“Am...What am I?” Kyle asked, confused.
“You are a dog Kyle.” The main said as he opened the kennel again.
“I’m a dog...what kind of dog am I?” Kyle asked, a bit relieved to at least know his species.
“A Dalmatian, can’t you tell from your fur?” The man joked letting one of the dog snacks dangling in front of Kyle's blackening nose.
A smile spread across his face as he snapped it up.
“Good boy, Now who wants a toy?”
But he was whimpering now. He could feel an immense pain in his backside. “Something...owwwwwww!!!”
“Ah seems as if your tail is ready. Wait I’ll help you!” The shopkeeper said before stripping Kyle of his trousers and shoes, andt setting the future dog’s tail free.
“Tail? Tailtialtial!!!!” Kyle started chasing the new appendage.
“Hey not so wild boy! Come you can play with this rubber toy, it makes funny sounds if you chew on it!” The man handed Kyle the rubbery-thing squeezing it a little bit so that it made a funny sound.
“Gimmie!” Kyle said, grabbing it in his mouth. It dropped. Kyle barked in frustration. “Too big!”
“Oh just keep trying!” The man said assuringly to Kyle seeing the changing Humans teeth sharpening as his face slowly pushed into a proto-muzzle.
Kyle grabbed it again, this time able to hold it. He lay down on his belly and chewed, enjoying the squeaking sound.
“The man smiled as Kyle gave in to his no him, his body elongating as his legs started to shift into proper hind legs. The fur getting denser and his T-shirt started to look odd on him.
Suddenly he sat up on his behind and started to itch with his hind leg. “Rrrr…..something itches under my shirt!”
“Just relax it is only your nice spotty fur. Come on I help you taking it off!” The man said slipping it over Kyle’s now very canine head and furry but still human arms, seeing as the leathery pads formed on the changing one’s hands.
He stood to his hind legs and hands and cocked his head at the pet shop owner. “What...now?” He asked, a little slowly.
“Well now I think we put you back into the kennel.”
“But I’m not...right. I feel strange.”
“Give it time boy! In a view hours everything will be alright.” The man said gently patting Kyle’s head.
Kyle obediently walked to his kennel.
The man watched Kyle return to his place his body shaping into that of a proper dog his arms thinning. The nails of his fingers turning into black claws. None would ever be able to tell that this dog was once a human.
Kyle panted as the shopkeeper closed his kennel door. “When I meet my family?” He asked in a gruff voice.
“When I can be sure you are nothing more than a good dog!” The man answered while walking out again.
“But I am good dog!” Kyle called out.
“Well dogs don't speak.”
“Bark for him! You get adopted!”
“Bark!!! Barkbarkbark!!!!”
“Good Dog! Give in but still two more days then you will meet your owners.”
Kyle started to cry out. “Two days!?” But remembered he needed to be a good dog to get adopted...so he did what came naturally, he barked.
The two days passed slowly for Kyle. He spent most of the time asleep. But on the second day he heard the door open. The shopkeeper entered with a collar and a leash.
Kyle cocked his head at him and panted.
“Well boy today is the big day!” The man said patting the dalmatian. Come on, and behave we don't want you to scare your new family away won't we?”
Kyle started hopping up and down. He knew that word! Family!!!
“Hey hey calm down!” The man said and Kyle obediently sat down while the owner of the store put the collar around his neck, before leading him out into the main room. “Look mum there he is!” A little boy said and stormed toward Kyle hugging him instantly while his parents smiled.
Kyle licked the little human happily, but he didn’t bark. Barking at your family was bad. The shopkeeper had taught him that.
The family paid for Kyle, their new dog, and led him out into his new and happy life.
