Kai and Tau live on a beach in Hawaii that isn't very populated. Sure there's visitors and tourists, its how Kai makes a living, making surf boards and hiring/selling them to cutomers.
Tau is the brains of the outfit, doing the math and banking money into an account. He now lives with Kai in Hawaii, after being fired from his job and left without anything to live on or even a flight home.
