they are small, they have powerfull big guns, they have good armor at a great angle with low weight
hell i have yet to see a western tank with those statistics, i mean big gun yea ok 5mm difrence now days but russian tanks are still smaller and lighter compared to wester tanks which in turn gives them more capability to cary mor armor while keeping the weight down
how much does a M1 way again? 60 tons and more? how about T90 with just above 40 tons ~Checks the statistics~ yea the Abrams ways close to 60 tons in the A1 variation and is also classed a 60 ton vehicle and the A2 is more then that, that is without the Extra upgrade packages like TUSk which come as a standart on the T90 that is clased as a 50 ton vehicle with 46 tons and if we wanna be realy crazy for comparing the tnaks without ERA and the other stuff the basic T-72 ways just 41 tons, if we consider the new tech implemented in the T90 we would be at maybe 42 or less that is 20 tons les then on a M1A2 and a M1A2 sufers from the Gas Turbine which the russians droped after they used it in th eT90, not reliable enought and drinks to much fuel
i could go on about comparing those to tanks but what i noticed during time is that most people get offended when i show them how a T90, on paper is better then a Abrams

How about the superior German 120mm gun on the Abrams? How about the fact that ALL the T90's ammo is stored in the CREW compartment? The way tanks are nowadays, most tanks can pen any tank on the battlefield. one SABOT round hits a T90? ALL that ammunition goes, killing the whole crew.
the "superior German 120mm gun on the Abrams" is the old L44 its actualy inferior to the Russian125mm, now if the Abrams would be able to fit the More Modern L55 it would outclass the T90s canon but only with standart amunition, the T90 also fires ATGMs which the Abrams isnt able to since it misses the fire Control systems for the Israeli made LAHAT ATGM, from the Leopard i heard it can be fited with a Control system for the LAHAT. anyways the T90s ATGM has a 100% chance of hiting the target at 5 KM which isnt even the max range of that missile and the T90 also has a Active Protection system type ARENA beeing able to counter guided munition by causing them to explode before they hit the Target, older tanks like T-64s, T-72s and T-80s where either used as test beds for those systems or modernized with the Active protection system(in tests they also found out that the APS was able to shoot down SABOTS). along the APS the T90 and also T80, in some variations, have the "red glowing eyes", named STORA, which are Passive Protection systems that disable the guidence system in the missile fired at the tank by blinding the Seeker head or the optics of the platform that the missile got fired from.
The amo is stored in the crew compartment but its not as much of a weakpoint as it always is stated, those statements mostly come from wars where american tanks had to fight T-72 Export variants, now the russians arent dumb they are smart and sold their export variants with less overal armor and near no protection to the amo rack, in the actual russian army tanks the mixture of armore thicknes is difrent from the exports and the amo rack along with electronics is a lot better.
when you say that it takes just 1 hit to kill a T90, yes in theory it does but it also only takes 1 hit to take out a M1, Leopard etc. the difrence is mostly how far the tank is away and how strong the gun and amunition is, you will rarely see a 1v1 Tank engagement at less then a few hundret meters inside a city, at that range any amunition of any country at any distance can pen any armor that exists at this point but when you see it more realisticly, the T90MS modernisation has a completly new Fire control system that can fire efectively at over 5 KM with standart amunition, at those ranges it isnt as easy to pen and destroy another tank head on,it may help that the drop of the projectile fires ontop of the target or negates the angle of the armor but the projectile losses energy while traveling throught the air for a certain amount of time. and when it hits the tank frontaly and penetrates the projectile will either have lost a lot of its power and will mostly only knock out the fire control system or mayb injur the driver but it propably wont have enought power to set of a amo rack explosion. its realy more likely to cause a amo rack explosion on a T90 when it gets hit by a HE or HESH round then a standart SABOT
lastly i also have to say that Russia is one of the few countrys that places ERA at the front of their armed vehicles, in some caases even multiple layers of ERA where 1 layer is in betwen 2 plates of armor and the 2nd is right ontop of the armor itself where the ERA layer ontop of the armor acts seperatly as 2 layers of the way it is built and the one inside the armor acts as a single era
