Ghost Story: Before the race pt 6
The sapphire hawk was quickly bearing down on the violet swallow as she marched along like the world didnt' matter to her. Her fists were clenched, teeth clenched, and glare steely; she knew that she was being followed. But the one who was tailing her, she did not want to talk to at the moment. She didn't know if she wanted to talk to her ever again; but there she was tailing her, with a purpose.
"Wave?" came her voice, but she only presisted. "Wave, we need to talk."
"I don't want to talk to you," she shot back, doubling her efforts to walk away from the hawk.
"Wave. Hey!" Charlie reached forwards and grabbed Wave by her wrist, pulling her out of her escape, and around to face her. Now, Wave was a fair bit shorter than Charlie, and with those plume, majestic looking headfeathers she had, akin to hawks, she looked kind of intimidating as she looked down on her, with a stern glare of her own. But she held her ground.
"You can't tell me what to do!" she barked at Charlie, her eyes narrowing. "You're not my b--" She clamed her mouth shut, silently cursing herself. (Stupid, stupid, stupid...) she cursed at herself.
"Listen, Wave," Charlie started. "Don't you think this grudge has went on long enough? It's been years."
"Easy for you to say," she shot back. "You're not the one who was being toyed with."
"I wasn't toying with you, for cryin' out loud! Did it even cross your mind to ask me back then? Why did you have to go and assumed? You were, like the only one who was oblivious to the entire fact." Waves hands clenched into fists once again. "It's your own fault, you know."
That was the last straw. Wave looked her dead in her face, rose her right hand and brought it across Charlie's cheek, slapping her right there. Shocked, Charlie nearly stumbled backwards, coming in contact with the wall behind her. Even Wave looked a bit shocked that she had actually struck her longtime close friend. As the look of shocked drained from her face, she stepped around the corner and leaned ont he wall there, closing her eyes and sighing heavily. Charlie just stood where she rested, too stunned to speak.
"Look, why can't things just be like they used to?" she growled.
"You know that can't heppen," Charlie said quietly, her eyes cast elsewhere.
"Why not?" she almost yelled.
"Wave, look at me, and look good," she told her, not even turning to see if she was doing so. "I am not what you thought i was, not back then, not now. What you see, is what you get. And, you can't even stomach the idea of being in the same room with me. And that's not even including the fact that i am who i am. Can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me you can have things back the way they used to be?" Charlie was looking directly into Waves eyes at this point, her lavender eyes staring into Wave's own, confusion overtaking them. Charlie turned her head away. "I didn't think so." She turned away as if she were about to walk, then turned her head slightly, and said, "For what it's worth, i am truly sorry for not telling you; i will take full responsibility for that." Wave blinked audibly as Charlie walked off. "I'll see you at the finish line."
Wave took a step forwards. "Charlie, wait...!" she called halfheartedly, but this time, there was no stopping her.
