Next up for Team Jade is Bran! He's named for and strongly influenced by a minor character from "The Sight" by Daniel Clement-Davies, a great read.

Name: Bran son of Phelan and Lupe
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Species: Manectric (with some Mightyena features)
Type: Electric
Grade: Junior
Team: Team Jade
Background: Bran hails from the Putnar, an Amerindian-like tribe of manectrics, mightyenas, arcanines, houndooms, and the like who live in the southwestern regions of Johto. The son of the mightyena chief Phelan and the proud manectric warrior Lupe, Bran was born to high expectations...which he never met. Scrawny and undersized (by the standards of the Putnar) from birth, Bran soon became the tribal pack's Sikla [omega wolf; the weakling]. Amongst his peers, Bran was easily browbeaten and humiliated, pushed far down the social ladder.
Growing up, Bran became superstitious, nervous, overly prone to caution, and not as brave as he should be. It was an unusual step his parents took, enrolling him in the PCA. They hoped that by going to the prestigious school and training with some of the best, Bran could return to the Putnar stronger and more equipped to handle the very competitive struggles for dominance within the tribe. In the rough, even harsh life of the Putnar, even a Sikla was skilled enough to make it at the PCA.
Bran had a hard time adjusting to the PCA, he went through a bit of culture-shock in addition to the usual hassle of being a freshman. He was gawky, nervous, scrawny...but over time adjusted and began throwing himself into his battles, growing in skills and confidence. He acquired himself well in his battles during Sophomore year.
Then came junior year. Unhappy with being an independent and missing the company that a pack can bring, Bran sought to join—or better yet, lead—a team. Upon hearing that a lopunny girl was attempting to put together a team, a cocky feeling Bran sought to join up only to be initially rejected. At this point, Campion sought to make her brother the fourth member. Bran challenged her to a fight for a place on the team....and, none too subtly, to assert his dominance over her within the team; aiming to supplant her as the team leader. Bran—by this point feeling full of Putnar pride and not expecting much of a challenge was floored by Campion in under two minutes. He slunk away, his tail between his legs.
Some time later, after Blackavar made it clear to Campion that he would not join her team as anything save perhaps an alternate, Campion called Bran back for a rematch. This time Bran was more prepared and fought more cautiously and intelligently than he had before. Even though he once again lost, Campion extended an invitation for Bran to join the soon to-be named Team Jade which he accepted.
But his repeated losses to Campion triggered something of a relapse in him as the old insecurities, doubts and nervousness rose up in Bran once again. The realization that he wasn't even a first choice—or even a second or third choice—gnaws at him. Once again, Bran was the Sikla.
This time however, Bran seems more at ease with himself. Comforted somewhat in knowing that he has a place—even if its at the bottom of the totem pole—Bran has essentially embraced his Sikla status. After all, Bran had come to respect and like Campion and her leadership—something that would appall his packmates who look down on mon not descended from carnivores and hunters.
He may still be a superstitious, nervous, gawky and scrawny Sikla...but he has a pack again. One that doesn't tease and humiliate him for being the way he is, for being who he is.
After all, it isn't so bad being a Sikla.
