The next member of the PCA's Team Jade, actually its alternate. His name is, like Campion's, taken from "Watership Down."

Name: Blackavar Usagi
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Species: Lopunny
Type: Normal
Grade: Junior (Skipped a year)
Team: Team Jade (Alternate)
Background: From birth, Blackavar has had it tough. His fur was from birth pitch-black, leading to lewd suggestions that his father was an umbreon (Blackavar has melanism). Blackavar wouldn't know. His mother never talked about the mon she had slept with who had sired him and destroyed her own marriage in the process. From an early age Blackavar came to feel that his family's situation was somehow his fault, something that only grew worse when his beleaguered mother turned to alcoholism and drug abuse, finally losing custody and being sent to rehab during his freshman year at the PCA.
But from the start Blackavar could always count on the support, friendship, and strength of his big sister, Campion, his biggest defender. She helped train him at school, like her he showed a gift for his studies, surpassing her academically and managing to skip his sophomore year and advance to junior.
Blackavar is bright, intelligent, and gentle. He writes poetry in his spare time and has dreams of being an author. His fighting skills were sufficient to have him advance past sophomore grade, but among juniors he is nothing special. Temperamentally he's rather mercurial, easily prone to mood changes.
But Blackavar's own accomplishments and gifts are swallowed up and overshadowed by those of Campion. He's known less for his own strengths and abilities but as being “Campion's little brother.” It grates at him, creating the basis for a strain in their very strong and deep closeness. The fact that his sister wanted to be held back a grade just as he advanced a grade provoked some grumbling from him, who thought that she did it not so much because of her grades but because of her desire to keep an eye on him (which, in truth, was partly true). When Campion tried to get Blackavar to join her team, he demurred without telling her why. He agreed to become an alternate only, something that hurt Campion who took it as a sign that he didn't trust in her the way he used to; straining things further.
Additionally, being a year younger than the rest of the junior class makes him shorter and more vulnerable feeling. Making friends is thus harder than it should be for someone so nice, if shy and withdrawn, than it would otherwise be; leading to the setting in of a certain melancholy around the poor boy.
