Well... i sort of enjoyed how Hunter's Moon did it with such classical chosen-one character: it has been underlined some kind of snobbish style of him, and in the end he make some sort of surprise sudden end (even if from a point of view of writing style it's not stressed enaugh i mean... the author give a bit too much space for him as co-protagonist character in some characters just to show us how his attempt to be a chosen-one hero ended in tragical way).
Personally i think the author wanted on purpose create this kind of surprising characte: mocking the standard chosen-one hero from many fantasy (and animal literature) that see prophecy and destiny in every corner xD
