Some furs in the UK will have heard that the debate and free vote to relax the ban on fox hunting in England and Wales was postponed when David Cameron realised he wasn't going to win. Already he was facing opposition from the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties, and even several dozen from his own Conservative party. Then the Scottish National Party, who traditionally abstain from issues that don't affect Scotland (the hunting ban in Scotland is devolved legislation) declared they'd vote against him too. Cameron had no chance.
While I initially welcomed the SNP's decision to back the hunting ban in ENgland and Wales, the ban in Scotland is weaker legislation. In England only two dogs can be used to flush a fox to guns. In Scotland, there is no limit to how many dogs can be used, which has allowed hunting to continue in a fashion up here.
If the SNP really cares about foxes (and not about point scoring against the UK government) then they must set a good example and strengthen the Scottish hunting ban to at least the same as that of the ban in England and Wales.

If the SNP wanted an excuse to one-up Cameron on something then they are doing Scotland a disservice because in England and Wales this could become seen as reason to drum up the idea of wanting only their MPs to vote on laws for their respective countries. Of course, maybe that is what they want just for the sake of filling their gas tank with the irrational anger that makes them go.
These days responsible chicken farmers know how to build a secure henhouse no fox can get into, and it is common knowledge that lambs are seldom killed by foxes; they tend to take already dead ones.
As for keeping fox numbers down, did you know that hunters build artificial earths to encourage foxes to populate the area so they can have more quarry to hunt? Pest control my back end.
