One of the most lethal predators of the Xanth wilderness, in spite of its lack of mobility, is the tangle tree. Tangle trees hunt by waiting in a motionless state with its tentacles curled in a manner as to appear to be a large dead tree covered with knobby protrusions along its branches. When detecting any movement nearby it will attempt to grab, constrict and consume any animal foolish enough to get near, regardless of size or any other concerns.
