Commission for
RedRodent, with his character dressed up in his medieval clothing. =3
Definitely happy with how this came out, in detail, composition, atmosphere, colors and more. This was a challenging piece and I enjoyed it. =3 (fire, multiple light sources, colored light etc)
Apparently Red is going to be turning it into a poster too. =D (will link to it when he posts a picture of it)
Glad you like it Red. Was fun to do, thanks! ^^ And to everyone else, enjoy! :w00t:

Umm, it's actually a simple amount of steps honestly, just the way you do them is how it comes out realistic.
To keep it short and simple:
1. Sketch out the character/subject (Red and me)
2. Sketch out the background subjects very simple (trees, mob, clouds)
3. Add the base colors for the characters (brown fur, blue tunic etc)
4. Add some base tones for the background (sunset, grass etc)
5. Add a light source somewhere in the background. (just above the crest of the trees, the fires)
6. Add the values to the characters how I see fit
7. Adjust the background so the characters fit in it and don't pop out too bad.
8. Details
9. Flatten and adjustments, smudge edges for fur texture.
10. Resize and post!
Hope that answered your question. =3 I should make a tutorial sometime.

The only blend mode I use is multiply, which I overlay over everything when I want to get a certain mood added into the pic, in this case, orange from the sunset and fires. I also use overlay sometimes, if multiply doesn't work.
The soft lights are done manually, with a soft brush on a low flow. However the saturated colors just comes from the dodge tool, which I use after I flatten all my layers at the end. =3
Hope that helped!
