Something I built at work today because I was lazy. Thor is my favorite mech, lots of brute force. This is about....9 hours of work. Maybe 10. I'm overall happy with the rendering, though I'm sad the AO Pass wiped out the autocannon on his left arm.
I plan on texturing this one, and dolling it up, making it look badass.
Either way, a good addition to my portfolio.

I donated my Mad Cat model to those guys. They had nothing but good things to say about it, saying its one of the best they'd seen, etc. But despite all of that I've never seen it show up in a single render / screenshot. Starting to wonder if they just tossed it and started over. :(
I remember one of the times I was playing, I finished a mission and got lucky, there was a thor available and I actually had enough credits to buy it after I sold my old mech. Gotta love the heavy mechs for their ability to just wade through combat. Jumpjets are useful too, I liked it that I could put them on the Thor.
Personally, my favorite mech is heavier even than the Atlas, it's in some of the Mechwarriors: Mercenaries games. Name is something starting with a J, it weights 120 tons where the Atlas is something like 110 or 115. Beefed up with extra armor, a couple PPCs, an enormous block of lasers of various kinds, a few missile pods, and just for good measure a Howitzer (you only get a couple shots with it, but it can lay waste to anything you hit), and control it all with a nice joystick with a twist feature and you're pretty much set for anything that doesn't require you to move quickly.
I just wish there were more mech games that you could use the Steel Battalion controller for.

*nods* Everyone really likes the Atlas, and I confess It's just a bit TOO brutish for me. :) I prefer a bit of maneuverability over hulking mass. Though if you ever need to just totally blow the shit out of someone, yeah, atlas is hard to beat. :)
And a game that used the Steel Battalion controller would be amazing. :D

I agree, sometimes maneuverability can be a good thing. In Mechassault, which, while vastly different than regular Mechwarrior games, wasn't that bad, I've actually used a power-armor to kill a computer controlled Atlas. It took a REALLY long time.
I actually HAVE steel battalion. I need to build myself a table for the panel so I can actually play it properly though.
