Related to grackles, the Rusty Blackbird is found across northern Canada and winters in the southeast United States. Though once extremely common, their numbers have declined rapidly for reasons not fully understood. A combination of habitat loss, oil projects in the once untouched forests of the Canadian north and acid rain may be killing off their prey, invertebrates.
