Introducing my first go at fursuit-making.. it's my fursona Khamisu the African wild dog! She's just a 3/4 partial right now.. thinking about making her feetpaws whilst here in Australia, armsleeves, then eventually a digitigrade full suit. The body suit most likely will wait until I'm back in the US.
This is the reason I have pretty much disappeared from FA for a month or so and haven't been drawing. Fursuit-making is a LOT of work, oh god. I thought the head would take like 30 hours? Hahaha. It took well over 100 x_x It took TONS of backtracking and troubleshooting, since this is my first time.. I learned a lot. Most of all, that fur adds a crapton of bulk. Next time, I will not be making a massive head. That was my biggest fail with this. But anyway, was like having a full-time job for 3 weeks (good thing I only worked an actual job about 10 hours per week during this time). So glad that's over with. I'm not 100% happy with her (her eyes feel a tad wonky to me; I may redo them), but considering she is my first attempt at fursuit-making, I think she turned out pretty well!
Not the best quality of photos so far.. all of these were taking with cell phones, but I don't want to wait until some more professional ones get posted by Negadrake photography XD

Thank you! Oh yes, please don't hesitate to ask if you run into any trouble! I had 2 friends I went to for some help when I had questions and it helped a lot! So I'd love to be able to help out where I can. However there were some things I had no idea how to do and they just took a lot of troubleshooting. Have you watched many tutorials?
I sewed the fur all together first, other than the ears - I did sew the ears onto everything else initially but I realized it would be way too hard to glue it all onto the head in one piece, so I had to cut them off and glue them on separately. So you can see the seams between the ears and rest of the fur in the back unfortunately x_x In the front, the long fur hides them.

Thank you for your reply and I appreciate you offering to help:) I will definitely note you if I have any questions or run into roadblocks (I know I'm bound to!) It really is a trial and error process. I've started to do some research and look at tutorial pics/vids. Do you have any that were helpful to you?
I'm scared that I will sew all the fur pieces together and then it wont fit the head when I go to glue it, or will be all lumpy:s
I know fursuit making is a lot of work. I'm going to try and take my time and hopefully the result will look as nice as your first try :)

OMG its an abomination. >:O
.....i think its a full size head for a full size suit, correct? its not meant to be a head for a partial. just my guess that once you finish the whole suit it will look absolutely perfect and you will be relieved you did everything exactly as you did it. ...one of these days i will try my hand at making a fursuit, and then it will suck and i might drink bleach or shoot a kitten in the face. X3
i think the tail is a masterpiece. o.o i think it does soo much justice to Khamisu you should rock it to the grocery store.....thats what i would do....have done. :p this cat.....er, fox :x made me a perfect tail a long time ago, and i lost it in moving from california to connecticut....or vice versa? i dont remember. D: thanks for posting your pictures - i think it came out beautiful. <3

Hahaha oh noo don't do those things if you make a shitty fursuit x3 Yeah she will be a fullsuit eventually. I have half a mind to try making her fullsuit whilst in Australia now.. haha godddddddddd. I really should not do that because my drawing life will go down the shitter and I've been neglecting it/my commissioners for a long time as is. I hate that it seems like you can usually choose between being a fursuit maker and being an illustrator... every artist I know that has become a fursuit maker stopped drawing, or almost completely stopped drawing at least, and started to suck at drawing.. ugh. I do NOT want that to happen, at any cost. ;_;
Yess it's unfortunate the tail is such an overlooked aspect of a fursuit if it's a small one! Heh. When I make her armsleeves they will have that spotty pattern, and then when I get to her fullsuit eventually they'll be on that as well of course.
