Targetmaster Practice!
Okay, one thing I love about the ol' G1, is how much work went into the weapons. For example, Blaster's tech spec bio mentions that he's armed with a an EMP rifle. ....THIS IN WAS 1985, PEOPLE! I challenge anyone to tell me they knew what an EMP was, before the Matrix movies!
Firebolt here, (Rodimus' Targetmaster,) is no different. I had to Wiki it, but it turns out, instead of being a heat-based weapon, he transforms into an 'Electrostatic Discharge Rifle.' I assume (yes i know what happens when you assume) that this rifle is akin to a Starwars Ion Cannon- an energy weapon that bipasses most armor to attack and disable electrical components directly. And there are definitely things you could do with a Stun Gun for Robits!
And i'm sorry for abusing Whirl, but he knows what he did.

Nul-Rays: Energy blast that freezes electrical flow in place. Causes instant paralysis and temporary shutdown in Autobots. (and probably ignores several laws of physics) Also comes in handy if you wanna cause hydroelectric generators to overload.
I always thought it was weird that Starscream, of all bots, would use a stun gun as his primary weapon. Tho, his missiles are pretty devastating to the local property values.

Mm, I have to figure that the way he has it set up is maybe for some kind of sadistic torture angle? Either that or the lore people came up with all sorts of cool weapon ideas and handed them out like candy without ever thinking whether they were suited to the user.
Besides, this early on in the lore, the various characters and their traits weren't really firmly established... it does make sense though that the inhabitants of a planet populated entirely by machines would lean pretty heavily on anti-tech weapons, because duh.
