One of the most widespread of the genus and with a high geographical variation, the Red-Breaste Parakeet is also known as the Moustached Parakeet due to a subspecies. A dominate subspecies is close to extinction in Java, but many occur across southeast Asia. The scientific name Psittacula alexandri, denotes Alexander the Great, whose armies brought eastern parakeets to Greece.
