A rose chafer beetle (Cetonia aurata). The topic at my local art society this week was to paint an iridescent insect and it just so happened I had a photo of this chap from when I rescued him/her from the kitchen of the place we were staying in Switzerland a couple years back. Never tried iridescent before and maybe watercolour's not the best medium to catch it in... the piece only really came together when I added some colour pencil over the painting.
