Supposedly the UTE started as a fed up farmers wife was sick of driving the farm truck to church on Sunday arriving in dirty clothes. So writing a letter to Ford asking why can;t they make a vehicle to go to church on Sunday and take the pigs to market on Monday. Bank managers would only lend farmers money to buy a truck and not a passenger car hence the plea by a woman scorned. This all started in Australia in the 1930's. America didn't get a UTE until 1957 with the Ranchero followed in 58 by Chevy's El Camino.
