Shaggs's Story:
In 18th century Japan lived a girl named Chiko Domen, who lived an excitable, adventurous and unfortunately short life. Her spirit caught the attention of Shaggs, who attached itself to this sweet, happy girl.
Each year Chiko was able to dress up in her favourite Kimono for the farmers rice festival, in celebration of bountiful crops. The Kimono's colours are represented through Shaggs's colouration, as it mirrored everything it could to make little Chiko smile.
Shaggs embodied her favourite animal, the Zebra. It took on the colours of her Kimono, and Shaggs's fur mirrored the unkempt fur of Chiko's childhood teddybear.
And Shaggs's name? It's not particularly Japanese, no, but when Chiko was younger, but at a later age than most, she couldn't speak. She spat out sounds, sounds of words from all places and languages, but none truly coherant. Shaggs adopted its favourite of these sounds, although Chiko never knew its name - when she could speak, she called it Pafu, the name of her Teddy (Puff).
Since Chiko's passing, at age 9, Shaggs has hung around the lineage of Chiko's family, through her siblings. Shaggs now lives in current day Akita, Japan.
Chiko's family knows the story of Shaggs, and how it kept her spirit alive before her young life came to an end; and that it's watched over each member of the Domen family line ever since, bringing joy to all the children in the family.
