It seems like an early lute or mandolin but I don't know for sure. I've not seen one with that few strings and such a small sound hole

The prim (prím) - one double string, E, and three single strings H, F#, C#. This is the smallest tamburica (about 50 cm long), but is very loud. It is mostly used as a lead instrument or harmonizing instrument. The bisernica (from Serbian and Croatian "biser" meaning "pearl") is almost identical but may have two double strings and two single strings.

then it must be the double string.. If there would only be a picture.. since the hole is so small..

I saw few other Ebay posts that that had ones similiar to yours with the small hole and four strings and they were calling it a "Nice old Lute, prim/ tambura or guitar"
