I drew the basic sketch ideas out and thought it may be somewhat better to try doing via PAINT. OMG HOW ARCHAIC! O_O
One I have had in a long time is the one you see on the far left It is basically constructed of one main piece of durable hard metal. I originally thought maybe steel, but considering the thickness of around 1 to 1.5 inches and length and width of varying manners. It should be extremely durable.
Primarily and originally used as a tool where using to chop wood, crush cert5ain things or hammering it in, and primarily hunting either via slicing and bleeding out method, or crushing bones/skulls of prey. It had been found equally effective in war type aspects.
Those who had training or rather day to day use of this weapon were all incredibly strong, men, women and those of other gender types.
It may seem odd that there are three slits for handles. It was to allow those comfort to wield how they wished.
Though holding with the bottom handle, probably increased range by a few inches. In meele combat, a couple inches could mean differance between life, serious injury or death. Usually, warriors dual wielded these weapons, and they were incredibly effective blocking and potentially breaking blades of enemies or bending or damaging them.
The other weapon is a bit more complex. IT primarily has a few types of heads that can be attached. Though primarily they all were equipped with a form of war hammer/axe combonation head. The shaft of these weapons were quite unique and odd. The handle primarily stays in place. But when swung and the blue trigger is pulled, it caused the weight and momentum of the axe/hammer to extend and do damage. And can be quickly retracted to allow close combat. These weapons were rather tall, usually around 4 to 5 feet in length.
When the green button is pushed, when a quick flick of the wrist or forearm depending on handle type being used.
Obviosly, the various components are not to scale be it in general or with one another as components aspect.
I hope some of you enjoy these two odd weaponry ideas. ^^;

Interesting, I had an idea for an axe almost identical to yours a while back, and it's actually the main weapon of a rarely-drawn character of mine by the name of Jim. His works on a much simpler principle though, and is styled just a little bit differently, though overall the shape is VERY similar.
I couldn't get down the right idea/style I wanted to, as my brain tends to want to "forget" the idea if I attempt putting it on paper, so I rarely do. >.< Of course, attempting to explain it all would be like "What the f*ck are you saying or talking about?" XD I don't really have names for these two as I suck at naming things. XD
Part of me has a few other ideas of "odd" weapon ideas, but I just can't quite work out the design/style of the look. >.<
Though, now that I think of it, these weapons, could perhaps instead or if say in a more modernized type of civilization, use some form of steam/air blasted hydraulic type thing for extension and retraction, or similar to like some various types of Giant Robot Anime weaponry that can extend/retract slightly. Hmm....... I don't know. So many "unique" ideas I have that can at times make me unable to think due ot them all buzzing in my head. ^^; oh well. Check out this gauntlet one I submitted one or two back. That was one part of a whole system of things that I had in one of my "Over hyper mental explosion of ideas and revisions that makes sleep an impossibility". >.<
I should attempt drawing the idea I have for another form of weapon/armor that incorporates a blunt/blade cmbo with odd mechanisms for switching and whatnot. Oh well. XD

yeah, the picture itself is really perhaps to others "Not that good quality" but to me, just trying to put out what I saw in my head to SOME degree, as my brain seems to tease me with ideas but when I go to try and put them down in a way other then inside my head, it takes it away as though to say "WHoa, hold up there. I never intended for you to write down or share these images, therefore I am now erasing them so you can't remember them. Mwahahahaha!" @_@
