Ghost Story: Before the racept 4
The two girls had stopped giggling by now, as they had long since left the other group behind, and were just casually walking along part of the track meant to race on; it was actually pretty high tech the way they built these tracks, as the sport was gaining popularity. Charlie had stopped walking for a brief moment, to lean agianst the railing guarding the track, sighing lightly. Jolt, who had noticed her, stopped as well and looked at her.
"Something wrong?" she asked.
"Not really, no," Charlie returned, knowing full well that there was.
"It's that Wave girl, isn't it?" Charlie pursed her beak together and looked away, over the horizon of the afternoon sky, while Jolt nodded. "I thought it would be. Want me to go and deal with her?"
"NO!" she blurted out, taken aback by just how loud she had said that, "Err... no. It's fine. i't just... huh?" Something had caught Charlie's attention from the corner of her eye, turning to where they had just come from, finding Jet standing at the top of the gentle slope of a hill. "Jaylen, i need to go for a bit. I'll meet you by the boards, okay?"
"But Char--"
"See you later!" she called back, already running in Jet's direction. Jolt had crossed her arms and huffed as her friend ran off with some strange bird she's never met before that day.
"Was it really necessary to leave your friend behind like that?"
"C'mon, Jet," Charlie complained. "You know full well that this shouldn't come to any of their attention."
"Yes, i know..." He trailed off. He seemed to be lost deep in thought as the blue hawk looked on. She lightly kicked the heels of her boots aginst the back of the guardrail she was sitting on, while looking at her boots. She finally looked up and at him as she spoke.
"She still isn't sore about that, is she?" she started."I mean, she said she never wanted to see me again."
"You kiddin'?" he shot back at her, looking at her almost in contempt. "Those were just words at the heat of the moment. Think she's been thinking otherwise?"
Charlie sighed softly, looking at her boots again. "It's her own fault, you know.. she coulda asked, and not assumed.. or you coulda told her. You knew from day one, didn't you?"
"Of course i did."
"Then why didn't you tell her?"
"She may be the most mechanically inclined in the group, but it doesnt' mean that she has to be babied in all other aspects. She was childish. She threw a child's tantrum. It was kinda to be expected."
"Well, why didn't you back me up when she wanted me out of the group?" Jet had fallen silent once again, looking back off in another direction. "I see.." Charlie slowly slipped off of the top of the guardrail, and to her feet, dustin goff her butt before turning to walk away.
"You're really going to race, aren't you?" he asked, with his own back turned.
"I'm here, aren't i?"
"Be wary of Wave. She isnt' done with you yet." And with that, he walked off, leaving Charlie staring in his direction.
