Some images don't have the texture you added to the dreads here which causes them to read quite differently

Just going based of what i see and what you wrote. I'd say if there was a need at all to make it this clear that they are dreads then yeah somewhere there is miscommunication occuring about what they are. There is also the fact that dreads for many are too difficult to draw so if this is about gift art you're recieving ( i really dont know soo...) then they may just be doing what they can.
