This is yet another class assignment where I'm to create a menu in a certain "style."
I chose art deco and decided to make my resturant the famous cafe/nightclub/casino from the movie Casablanca. The menu's then ended up being art deco with some subtle "neo-Moorish" elements - including an Arabic translation of the menu's title. (to the best of my ability). The colors are monochromatic for easy and inexpensive printing. The two figures on the right are a very stylised Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman... I think I'm going to work on that a little more.
In the much larger file going to be subitted as the assignment (after improvements, I'm noticing some things I need to change already), there is no text in the menu, but for FA's submittion I've decided to include menu items because it was fun coming up with yummy (and hella spicey!!!) Morrocan dishes allong with a couple Spanish selections and... since this is "Cafe Americain", a little oasis of burgers and hotdogs. It also has baklava, which is the best desert ever.
Beer selection has what would be local brews, one American beer, and... for Avon... I've included Stella Atois :p

I think in part it's because of how dark they are. They draw the eye. They're a very strong linear portion of the image very near the center, a sort of dense point. If they were the lighter, paler salmon-red tone that you use on the background, they'd be less obstructive and complement the art-deco image of the couple as flower. They're no darker than the border, but since they're slim and so close together they seem denser, and that density is the problem. Alternately, you might go with a single more airy line, or keep the lines as they are, but bring the cut-off 'edge' of the taper at the top down lower so it complements the broadening of the graphic.

Took some inspiration cues from the "Kashmir" resturant in the game... as well as a real life Spanish resturant called "The Columbia House" in Tampa, Florida... it has been in business since the turn of the century and feels very similar to the nightclub in the movie.
