Found from the Himalayas to the islands of Borneo and Java, the Greater Racket-Tailed Drongo has an amazing ability to mimic the sounds of other species. They are the first to be observed picking up the alarm calls of other birds, using them to frighten off other birds in order to scavenger their food. This is equivalent to knowing important phrases in foreign human languages. They feed mainly on insects and fruit and nectar. In parts of India, they are known as kothwai, meaning police or guard, due to their whistling alarm.
