Kiho is a hyena from Sarki's clan. Male hermaphrodites (c-boys) like Kiho are extremely rare in hybrid hyenas. A majority of hyenas are born female hermaphrodites (55%), with 24 % being male, 20 % being female, and only 1% being male herms. The hybrid hyena clan's hierarchy is based on three things: gender, fertility, and achievement in battle or hunting. Female hermaphrodites like Sarki and Morowa have the highest status as they are considered the preferable gender since most female herms can both sire and carry cubs. Female hyenas are the next status down, but still highly respected for being bearers and hunters. Male hyenas kind of get the short end of the stick since the females don't consider them necessary. When a male hyena comes of age, he is sent away from the main clan to join the male clan, only allowed to return twice a year for mating or if there is a war.

Male herms like Kiho are at the very bottom of the hyena clans and are often exiled entirely, due to them being born sterile and viewed as inferior both in the continuation of the clan and defending it. Kiho was further cursed by being born with a 'moon eye', a rare mutation resulting in a silver pupil that is said to be the mark of death, thanks to Kamili's eyes being that color.

Kiho was slated to be cast out of the clan from the moment he was born. Because male hyenas are not allowed to mate with females without Morowa's consent, the leader of the male clan wanted to trade for Kiho as a harem boy. Morowa refused at the request of Kiho's mother and instead gave him a place in the main clan, a great honor for a male. Kiho was trained from an early age to care for cubs, cook, make clothing, cultivate herbs, and most importantly, in the sexual arts to cater for the female and herm hyenas outside of the mating season.

While Kiho's sexual use might seem cruel, his role in the tribe has given him a great deal of respect, more than Morowa's male assistants, and he not only enjoys his work, he is well loved by most of the clan and is cared for, despite his lack of battle prowess and poor hunting skills.

Kiho has a bubbly personality and is very kind, but is also tenacious and stubborn. Because of his treatment by male clan, Kiho has a severe distrust of males and prefers the company of females and female herms, both socially and sexually.
