Somnidenti.

Creation:
A Somnidenti is born when a person full of worry, fear, anxiety or other negative emotions passes through the Whispering woods.
An egg will form beneath the tallest tree and within a few days a Somnidenti will hatch, growing to full size in a matter of hours. They will then seek out those who's emotions they were born from and become a sort of guardian for them.
They follow their chosen humans around, acting as a source of comfort or help whenever they need it, be that guarding them when they feel insecure or simply being affectionate and caring when they need it most.
Many humans who first see their Somnidenti are fearful of them and believe them to be evil or dangerous- it couldn't be further from the truth.
They are loyal and just, always caring for their chosen ones and providing whatever they can for them.
Of course, don't mistake the Somnidenti for a slave species- oh no.
They cannot be commanded like a domesticated animal, they have intelligence and personalities closer to that of a human and therefore need to be treated more like an old friend than a pet.
If treated unjustly the Somnidenti will fade away, back into the Whispering woods ready to be born for a more worthy or needing human.
Somnidenti are completely genderless and cannot reproduce.
They also cannot age or die.




Sustenance:
Somnidenti gain sustenance and energy from dreams, hence the name- Somnidenti is a combination of the words somnia comedenti, which are latin for dream eater.
This doesn't effect the chosen human at all, all they will be aware of is the Somnidenti may appear in their dreams as a guide or helper.
Nightmares give Somnidenti dreadful tummy ache and they will try to keep their chosen human from having such bad tasting dreams!



Behavior:
A calm and slow moving species, whenever it is around a soft sound can be heard- like a combination of angels whispering and wind chimes in the distance.
Each Somnidenti can only be seen by it's chosen human.
If threatened a Somnidenti can fight back, but will only do so in extreme circumstances. When needed they can spew stored negative energy out into their attacker- rendering them anywhere from mildly stunned to driven completely insane depending in the severity of the negativity absorbed by the Somnidenti.
They absorb negative energy by calming their chosen human down or helping them through whichever emotion they may be having.
A prime example would be a Somnidenti calming it's human down after a panic attack, both Somnidenti and human benefit from the action as all codependent species do.


Appearance:
Somnidenti are large, graceful creatures. The average height is between eight to twelve feet tall from hoof to ear tip but legends say that larger have been sighted.
They have long, dragon like bodies with distinctly canine heads, a pair of larger almost hare-like ears and a smaller pair lying directly underneath.
Their long, thin tail is very vestigial and can be used almost like a hand.
They have huge ruffs of fur, fur running along the bottom of the tail, fur along the chin and fur on the back legs.
Their front legs are cloven hooves like that of a deer and their front legs are similar to a combination of a big cats paws and a wolves.
Their tails usually end in a large puff of fur.
At birth They will always take on the colours that are soothing to their chosen human - for example my Somnidenti has colours that resemble a starry night sky as I find night skies very soothing and calming.
Someone else's might be the colours of the ocean, or a sunset, or even a particular cuddly toy they own.
Their eyes are always full of the sky, be that a sunset or a night sky or a storm so their colours always reflect that in their eyes.


Additional appearance:
On rarer occasions Somnidenti may have horns of many sizes and shapes, hair, a second pair of large ears rather than the usual smaller one, a much smaller tail puff, or a peacock like end to their tail.
They may also come in much smaller or much bigger sizes.
It has been reported than on occasion very strange mutations have happened on hatching and unreported appearances and growths may form on the Somnidenti but these are immensely rare.


Breeding: Somnidenti cannot breed, reproduce and do not have any sexual organs.


Life span:
They will live as long as their humans, before fading away ready to be reborn for someone else.


Creating your own:
Somnidenti are semi-closed, meaning their are restrictions and rules when making one and I will need to see it to verify if it is ok.
Common and uncommon appearances can be used (those listed in green and yellow on the above chart) but rare and ultra rare cannot. Rare and ultra rare traits can only be obtained through adoptables found on this account.

I recommend reading all of this information before making your own to help make the perfect Somnidenti!
And the number one rule is, make them unique- don't steal another's design. Somnidenti are supposed to use themes of what sooths you, be that a place or sound or band or whatever it might be.
Although it is fine to have multiple Somnidenti themed after the same thing, ie many people may have ocean themed ones, please don't directly copy someone's design.
