Joking aside, if I were to put it simply it would be that they're cute designs, they're naturally designed to be customizable, and it's a good game made by a company all about nostalgia. Much like MLP in that sense.

Band wagons start when something appeals very strongly to a specific demographic or at least a group of them. So those outside of them are naturally going to be confused by it. So it's perfectly fine to ask. In fact, it's a lot better to discuss these things like this compared to other more.....energetic discussions you see on the internet about similar properties.
