Tinplate Transport: Early Morning Commute!
After a bit of TLC and oiling, a set of K-Line Baltimore and Ohio RDCs charge along my layout, carrying commuters to work!

my most recent was On30. big enough to see, HO mechanisms and track, reasonably reliable and readily available.
many 1/4" non-railroad items such as for scenic details and architecture, available from not railroad providers.
(close to scale ferals and fantasy people and so on. architectural model building supplies in 1/4" common and some reasonably priced)
i've dabbled in 1/2" to the foot on g-gauge track. not long ago i was gifted a bunch of g-track too. but i've only got a couple of turnouts for it, and those are a bit spendy.
the complensation of g, is being able to scratch build everything, its so huge. big enough to 3d print whatever details desired, or even make many of them out of common household items.
the other thing with g i like, is good size battery power on board for radio control, ergo, no track cleaning that way, and even non-conductive materials become an option for rails.
might try scratch building turnouts, expensive as available ones are. one project for sure i have in mind, is a solar charged batter powered imaginary prototype loco.
something like the one in http://www.furaffinity.net/full/13818838/

where i'm living now i'm not planning on trying to build anything right away.
