Idzun (sing. idzu) are arboreal semi-aquatic reptiles hailing from a world largely covered by brackish mangrove swamps and tidal floodplains. Much of their time is spent in trees or in water.
Most of the idzu diet consists of aquatic life, both plant and animal. Shellfish and crustaceans seem to be a staple, supplemented with sea foliage of various types. Most fruits don't agree with them due to the high sugar content. Since almost all water on their world is salty or brackish, they can hydrate on fluids with a very high salinity.
Their view of outsiders is rather open, their main policy being "innocent until proven guilty." Quick to trust the first time, slow to forgive if said trust is broken. This has given them a reputation of naivety among other species, which is quickly dashed once an idzu is slighted. Technologically, they are in the equivalent of a "Bronze Age", but their habits are still very close to their wild ancestors.
The above pair is a male in full mating colors, and a flirtatious female. The "hair" on their heads is actually feathers of a similar consistency to ostrich plumes. Males grow this plumage longer and brighter than females. Male idzun are nomadic and largely solitary unless and until they settle with a harem of females, who tend to stay with a group and stake out a territory. Villages are uncommon but not unheard of.
