Oh wonderful, more of the religious wrong trying to screw with the lives of others. Unfortunately I live in Ohio, but if I was in Florida or if something like it popped up here I'd vote against it. Not only would it invalidate same-sex marriage, but by the wording of the amendment it could also do away with any non-Christian unions.

I just find it funny that the fundies refer to it as "protecting" marriage. If this were to pass then it would cause less marriage, essentially weakening the concept. So really they're the ones who are harming it.

Even if some states don't pass, eventually it'll hit the US constitution. If it were to pass there, it would force all states to follow.

Fortunately, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. As far as I know, the number of gay marriage supporters grows.

I don't think it really matters even if these amendments do pass (Which I doubt they will) The reason these amendments are being voted on to begin with was because the supreme courts for the states involved (Which namely seem to be california and florida. Noone seems to care about the other 2 states where gay marriage is legal :P).

Basically, if these do pass from public vote, the states individual supreme courts still have the power to override it. And if they voted to allow gay marriage to begin with, I'm sure they'll do it again.

This is really just a last ditch effort by zealots (namely christians) to try to keep the country in their control. They can't stand the thought of losing it. After all, the U.S. wasn't founded on the principle of 'freedom to practice religion' It was founded more on the ideal of 'freedomto practice our OWN religion'. Which in turn means that it wasn't about personal freedom like so many people think, but rather the freedom to practice their own ways and uphold them just as dickishly as Britain was doing to begin with.

If that makes sense. All in all, my point is that while I'd like to see it voted down, I don't see it making a huge difference even if it's not. It'll simply be presented before the supreme court again and ruled against once more.

I love how so many Americans like to talk shit about middle eastern countries forcing religion on their people and making them out to be these evil creatures that need to be stoped....... that is, until they start thinking like us, because our reasons are just so much more different.... hypocrites....

You know, I don't know why they haven't just added an amendment that says that government has no right to decline any persons from marriage to any person's of their choosing under the "Right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happines"

You know, the thing is that they legally can't do that. They can't make this affect anything that happened before it was made law. Hence why you can't be tried for a crime if you did it before it was a crime.
