Whenever I start to draw out an unfamiliar character concept, I'll first do a test sketch to see if I can handle it. Such was the case when  j25thearcking commissioned me to draw a Gardevoir Pokemon as a mech. Having had little experience drawing mechs (what a time for  zenmigawa to not be on the East Coast, eh?), I gathered some references and started sketching to see if I could do it, at which point I would start on the actual commission. From the completed pic, you can safely guess that I decided to go through with it :)

Being such a departure from my usual material, I decided to post the concept sketch here in scraps, adding the mech's head to the body to complete the figure, but leaving in the construction lines to show how I built the mechanical bits over a female humanoid form. So I guess I can draw mecha...although there are a few constants and common details I think I'd need to get more familiar with.
