"....and Padishah Ismail II issued a firman which limited the right to issue fatwa to the Grand Mufti of Dimitriyye appointed by the caliph himself, excluded Quranic studies from newly adopted public education system, and introduced a new tax on large religious properties including mosques. The firman also contained a passage that claimed Imam Khallouki, a mysterious figure who was believed to have delivered the Islamic faith and Terran medieval culture to the planet, to be "not a prophet, but undertook a similar role", which the Sunni masses interpretated as to be supporting the ideas of Khalloukiyyah, an indigenous heresy of Islam that recognized Imam Khallouki as a prophet. This greatly outraged the religious scholars and lawers empirewide. The imams of Phergistan were the first to take action; they roused the populace, who were already seething with discontent on new taxing system that applied equally to both dhimmis and muslims, into a full fledged revolt. This revolt marked the begining of disintegration of the Occidental Empire."

It happened often in history, when the statutory institutions failed, leading to chaos, unrest and hunger. In the end, people seek refuge in the arms of their Faith. Which, sadly, often abused this to gain more power. When people turn against their neighbors, which they grew up with.
Fictional world stuff, I’m sure, but....the parallels and references to our own world is in a way terrifying but needs to be known. As a US citizen, or any typical outsiders, it’s confusing to see why there is so much conflict in the Middle East, or the between Pakistani and Indians.
Even though what here is depicted as fictional, it still brings to light my own ignorance.
