well that is the point of why they double up on tires...

Well, the ACTUAL point is to double up the load bearing ability of the axle.

The 'weak link' in an axle and balloon tire configuration is the tire. That will pop long before the axle bends.

Doubling the tires doubles the load possible before the tires fail.

And nine times out of ten, the reason tire A went boom was because tire B was underinflated. That gives it an effective smaller diameter, pushes the load to the good tire and overloads it until it explodes, and then you're left with the full load on the BAD tire...

I've always found that the under inflated tire blows first because the sidewall flexes more, generates more heat then overheats and explodey

You sir are so right.... 90 percent of tire failures occure due to improper inflation. Most the time because of under inflation. Please accept this gold star for defeating idiotic psuedo scienctific hypothisis with your simple elegant explanation.

I've only been driving five, but in all the blowouts I've had, the intact tire was spiked and under 60.

And yes, I hit them with the pressure gauge for the pretrip.

True I forgot about that. I don't know a whole lot about trucking over all. lol. XD It always made sense to have two sets cause of the weight and the danger of the blow outs to help the driver keep control

I don't know much about trucking either, I just extrapolated what I know of physics.

My company isn't that stupid. Fleetnet or even one of the local truck stop's usually have a guy who can come out and put at least 1 tire on a trailer. :P

Just had someone back into my trailer and I guess their DOT bumper slashed a bit of my tire & rim. I'm just barely okay to drive on it. Sadly, I sleep like a log once I'm 2 hours in, so didn't catch the guy who did it.

recently i've had tire blow outs when someone was in the next lane almost perfectly alongside the tire that blew.

needless to say, they quit dicking around and moved their ass when it happened.

Used to fill vending machines, and drove a largish Step-Van avec duallies on the rear. Popped an outer right, drove it to the tire place and was amused by a semi driver who pointed to my rig and said, "Ahh, let the LIL' guy go first..."

oh come on, driver... just put a plug in it and drive another 700 miles today before midnight... it's only 4pm!

amusingly enough my right rear outside trailer tire blew in New Jeresy on Tuesday. 4 hours at the columbia, NJ T&A i-80exit4 to get it swapped out.

Soooooo slow... I hate that little gnat fart of a truckstop. I always make it a point to park in the reserved parking area and not pay. Just to piss them Off. 8D

when the F*CK did T&A get "reserved" parking anyway? that's assclown stupid right there.

they've had that for a while now; it's just a ploy to get money from truck drivers.

it's the worst form of extortion; you can't just park your truck anywhere and they exploit this fact.

the only ones worst than that are the truck stops that make you pay for parking.

and NO BODY will reimburse you for parking >.<
