Known as the Peewit or Green Plover, the Northern Lapwing is found through temperate Eurasia, migrating from Norther Africa, India, and parts of China. They are a wader and fierce defenders of nests, even warding off horses and cattle. Plover’s eggs were once a delicacy in Victorian Europe and in Netherlands, there is a historical competition in order to find the first peewit egg of the year (het eerste kievietsei).
