Yes it is.. what you see depicted in this image is the 'Offering' (or Ofrenda) which basically consists in an 'altar' with a photo of the departed one, and on the altar you place all the foodstuffs, desserts, candies and drinks he/she enjoyed in life, even alcohol and cigarettes.
The candles serve to guide the spirit home and partake with the family once more. it is adorned with cenpazutchitl flowers, pan de muerto (dead's bread, it is a piece of sweet bread adorned with "bones"), small sugar (or chocolate) skulls copal incense is burned.
It serves to remember that (or those) members of your family and show them you have not forgotten them and neighbors come to pay respect to those of their neighbors they knew when they were alive.
There's nothing to be afraid of in Dia de Muertos, on the contrary, it is a day to celebrate, and remember your loved ones.

Tehehe, pequeño el altar pero me fascinó como lo representaste, me fascina mucho el Día de Muertos es mi festividad favorita, la prefiero un millón de veces que Navidad, me fascina el misticismo de ese día, los colores, el aroma del copal y el incienso en el aire, los altares, los significados de cada objeto en el altar y el delicioso pan de muerto... aaahhh, ya quiero que sean el Día de todos los Santos y el Día de Muertos y sobre todo de estar en Pátzcuaro en esos días y pasar esas festividades allá.
Hasta me dan ganas de desenterrar a los muertos para que salgan a bailar y se la pasen entre los vivos con más alegría tehehe. X3

Y si es un dia enserio memorable, calido y tremendamete familiar, por eso me encanta, en especial sentir toda la tradicion y disfrutar de las toneladas de comidas y festejar enserio, a los que enserio se merecen el respeto, a nuestros muertitos!
