This is my dog Sadie. She had lots of nicknames, like Moose, or simply Brown Dog. My stepmother rescued her when she was one year old from a home where she was kept in a 6ft x 6ft kennel 23 hours of the day.
Despite having a rough start in life, her life was a damn good one. We loved her, she loved us, we spoiled her with treats and other goodies.
For a while now, she was in failing health, and both her knees were in terrible condition. Last week she collapsed and couldn't get up on her own because of her weak legs. We decided it was time to euthanize her.
We made her a bucket list, and did every single thing on it. She got a fancy New York steak grilled by my dad, she was taken to a lake (I wasn't able to be there for that sadly) because she loves the water, and we got her a little bit drunk. She always loved alcohol so my family got her a nice beer and she got some of it. She was so damn happy.
She was taken to the vet today, where we all (my family and I) started crying just waiting in the lobby. It wasn't so bad when we were taken into the room. The vet was very kind and so was the vet assistant. We all talked, and the vet gave her a big ol' cup of Cajun fries and we all got to give her some.
She went very peacefully. Her head was in my stepmother's lap and we all pet her as she just... fell asleep. We all cried, but it wasn't too sad, because we reminisced about our good and best times with her.
She will be cremated and we will spread her ashes in the orchard very close to where I live. She always loved that orchard.
She was a fourteen year old chocolate labrador retriever mix.
Goodbye my baby girl. I'll always love you, I'll always miss you, and you'll always be in my heart. Rest in peace.
