That's exactly what it is, a M-1 carbine with a foward pistol grip, a conical flash suppressor, a scope, and a large searchlight, making it look more like a ray gun than a rifle. (It still fired bullets.) Of course, all of these features are now commonly used by special-ops and SWAT teams. (If they ever do a remake of "The Man from UNCLE", this weapon would be a MP-5.)
