Cropped from an image I did for my other account, this is currently the only pic I have of this concept - hence my cropping this part to put here :>
The idea for this "Monster Clinic" originally spawned from a discussion on a DragonQuest forum, and I thought it'd fit in quite well with the story I was writing. After all, if you can magically survive pretty much anything in the game (And repeat Quests over and over when logic would dictate they shouldn't be) I wouldn't be all too surprised if things like this actually took place behind the scenes and off-screen :B
Anyway, on to what's going on here.
The concept for this "Monster Clinic" - which I oh so creatively named the M.H. Clinic - was to provide a whimsical means for keeping the monsters and hunters in the game and able to do their thing. They're the third of the three factions present, although with Monster Hunter: Stories having been announced, this might be extended to be third of four factions. Riders ftw <3
*ahem* Moving that aside, they're intended to assist with a wide range of afflictions - from common illnesses, stomachaches, and so on all the way up to more severe things like fractured bones or carving knives stuck in your tail. Assuming you can afford their services, that is.
This is where I was again inspired by NCH's works, namely the 'Service Fee' video where the Felynes take a cut of your reward every time you botch the Quest. I figured they'd do the same, but why not worm even more resources out of this? The Clinic's not above helping the hunter's guild either, nor are they above taking their reward money when their members get KO'ed in the field. Monsters get KO'ed, same thing - take resources from them.... And then sell those back to the Hunter's Guild. Sneaky sneaky.
That's a general summation of what they do. Keep both sides up and able to do their thing, but at a price. If you can't afford it, well you'll be stuck doing those 1 ~ 3 Star Quests for the rest of your "career" :B
For the monsters, that means being the cause of said Quests - or serving as cannon fodder in higher ranked ones until they can repay the Clinic. Which for the lowly monsters, pretty much never happens ;P
Pictured here is the Najarala character 'Mendi' I created alongside my Jaggi story. She's one of the few members of the Clinic who is honestly interested in helping others in the name of doing good as opposed for doing so for profit.
More infos and 'lore pics' relating to this silly story of mine will come in the future ^^
As for the video I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r20lDhxLBg8
If you like lighthearted and humorous MH fictions, I'd definitely recommend these <3

Yah! I had this lying around for a while, and I thought I'd post it (After cropping out the irrelevant bits) since it was already ready to go and all that x)
I think I'd like to draw in a pic of some of the main "staff" of the Monster(s) "Guild" for that article, or something :D
I'm pretty sure they do, they'd need to have a variety of talents on claw to handle any sort of situation that might come their way. Wouldn't do to be a medical group and not be able to solve a problem just because you didn't have the resources on hand xP
Mmm interesting critter! I'm sure a lot would object if they saw one using their claws in that manner hehe

Especially any monster knowledgeable in hygiene/sanitation! That would violate many, many laws! (The monsters have those, right?)
I suppose I was more of asking if there were any relevant/named staff members filling those roles. I wouldn't doubt a medical unit would have those kinds of talents on hand!
I can't wait to see what you post next!

Yeah, most monsters would still need to have sanitary working conditions, when some of the more severe injuries come into play (Severed tails seem to be a common one). It's definitely a new concept for many of them, and took a while for things to catch on so to speak :P
Laws/rules, to an extent. They're not really governed in the same way as human laws are I imagine, but those at the Guild here are taking after human concepts fairly well. Doesn't hurt that they kinda share the same island and whatnot ^^
Elsewhere, it's a bit different. Like with the "Who is safe to eat, and who is off-limits?" thing for the carnivores? Generally it's limited to the feral monsters. They're fair game, but anything that can talk and etc is generally a no-no. But, sometimes that rule isn't really followed (Larger and/or more aggressive monsters would be more likely to break it) and it's not always enforced either. Mons might overlook an infraction if the eaten individual wasn't exactly popular or liked, as rude as that may seem :B
Plus, if the predator was strong enough, most wouldn't even try challenging them over it. Not unless you'd want to risk joining the victim on their dinner plate :P
Overall, it's not a perfect "Human-like structure but with monstahs!" sort of setup, and it varies where you go. Further out into the wilderness you go, the less likely you'll find these rules and things governed, and the more ferals you'll bump into. The rules aren't really strict or anything either - pretty simple and easy to understand. Probably not many of them either, it's something I'll have to think about. Right now it's basically just what I listed above, and everything else kind of just follows along with the "Strong take from the weak" sort of mindset. Except for at the guild and the 'town' surrounding it, as well as at the human village - everyone has to behave themselves in those places, but you can just go nuts and do whatever in the wilderness.
All this is just concept right now, will need ironing out and more thinking o///o
Yeah, Mendi and Harlyx are the only two named ones right now. I had a few images in mind of what it's like at their quarters...
"Hey! What did I tell you about eating your co-workers? Spit him out now!" ;P
I imagine Baggi would be pretty useful, what with their tranquilizing saliva. ^^

Baggi spits sedatives! Useful!
I like how you're showing the transitional state of the monsters adopting the human social structures. It's really interesting and shows a different side of world development you don't see often! I'm looking forward to the stories you write!

Very useful ^^
I'd like to have a Baggi for real, they'd probably be great companions on cold nights, and especially nice to have when you're an insomniac like me XD
*nods* It's good to have both sides of things, the more developed side and the animal-like one we're used to seeing - and some that are a blend of the two - so that it gives for more varied interactions and situations :D
Of course, they'll still have their own ways of doing things as well, it's like their own take on how things are done but with a human'ish twist to them (Or the other way around :P)

Thanks <3
NCH's poking fun at the KO penalty was pretty fun too (I also loved how the Felyne's just dumped him off a cliff instead of bringing him back to camp when he couldn't pay x'D)
The system isn't perfect though, but it works enough to have stuff like the games go on without anyone really worrying about that being the last day of their lives or anything ^^
