-I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream- Rift Wings
The name resulted completely from my accidental forgetting of including D in front of Drift Wing, and it slowly evolved into an eldritch abomination in Drift Wing Culture :D
Their Lore is as follows:
Rift Wings
Akin to the 'Grey' Aliens to Earthlings, Rift Wings are something of an Einzhellean Cryptid, passed down through centuries of stories and eyewitness accounts.
Unlike Greys however, Rift Wings (as their name suggests) are believed to be extra-dimensional beings, or more accurately beings that live between dimensions that pass in and out of existence on the planet of Einzhelle every so often, since neighboring life-sustaining planets to not appear to have Rift Wings living upon them.
Notes taken from encounters:
- They seem to defy gravity in every account without the aid of wings, no one has ever claimed to see them set foot on the ground.
- Said to be able to pass through solid matter at will, tho in accounts where they pass through Drift Wings, the Drift Wing in question are said to go into absolute shock or comas, and are delirious for days afterwards.
- The atmosphere in their presence feels heavy, dense and gravity in the vicinity around them feels increased despite their floating, making it difficult or impossible for Drift Wings to fly themselves or even at times walk or stand.
Sometimes however it is said that this passes after a time, adding to the belief that they are trans-dimensional, and the gravity shift is a result of them passing into an alternate plain of existence
- They have been sighted even out in space above Einzhelle's atmosphere, floating just past or outside Einzhelle spacecraft, themselves without the aid of spaceships or even a spacesuit.
- In the accounts where communication has been attempted, it is said that they cannot speak, or when they do so what comes out is a strange buzzing static and underlying whispers of multiple entities in a language that's completely indiscernible with almost electronic screeches that harm the ears of anyone who tries to listen. It is also said that this sound causes hallucinations or even waking nightmares that disorients a Drift Wing. It's said that those who experienced this have been found after missing for days, babbling incoherently and driven nearly insane.
- Just sighting a Rift Wing is said to bring an ominous feeling of dread to one, even if the Rift Wing appears benevolent or has not actively attempted any harm. It's an overall feeling of 'wrongness' or a sense of something out of place, that 'should not be'.
- It is not uncommon to find dead wildlife and plantlife and the land nearly barren and wilting in areas where sightings are common. Alternatively however, there are also sites with frequent sightings that exhibit the opposite-where wildlife is abundant and plants are almost completely overgrown to the point of taking over. Sometimes the wildlife will even be much larger than what should be normal.
- Their movement is overall ethereal, like one moving through water, almost always flowing. However at times they will move jerkily or with unexpected speed. There is no explanation for what which pattern means.
- There are some increasingly disturbing accounts of monstrously gigantic Rift Wings sighted deep beneath Einzhelle's oceans.
- Encounters conflict on wether or not they have noses and mouths. There are equal parts sightings where they have noses and mouths as there are those where they the lack them. It is not uncommon for those seen with mouths however, should they open, the inside of such is completely pitch blackness, unable to seemingly reflect light, similarly to their eyes.
Common Rumors on Origins:
- They are Drift Wings from an alternative dimension that can travel between dimensions and dimensional rifts in space-time.
- They are spiritual guardians of nature and manifestation of the planet Einzhelle's conciousness itself.
- They are ancient gods of the Drift Wings, as in many depictions from ancient times shows evidence they were worshipped and believed as such.
- They are the escaped result of illegal genetic experimentation and gene-splicing between Drift Wings and Lougou (often debunked as it's been proven that sightings of Rift Wings have occurred since the beginning of Drift Wing civilization).
- They are actually time-travellers, Drift Wings evolved and traveling back in time from centuries in the future because Future Einzhelle can no longer sustain life.
Which of the above is actually true and whichever is fiction is really entirely up to any potential Rift Wing owners, should adopts come of them.
