It's hard to believe this all started because of a thrift store find. <XD
Backstory on this project: I was at Goodwill one day, poking around, and I found this cute mini Avon collector mini-stein depicting a jaguar. It was super cheap and looked basically brand new, so I picked it up and started thinking on what I could do with it.
This past summer around AC and Comic-Con, I started doodling some ideas for a jaguar girl who could fit inside the mug (using the mug as a stand, pretty much). One of my first sketches is shown above, on the left. I liked the idea, but nothing had really solidified until this drawing; I liked the pose and begun to refine it.
The center sketch shows some thoughts on how I was working out the details: at the time, I thought the big arms were interesting, slightly more "animal" in form. She also has finger-pads at this stage. I'd decided against the club girl look and went with more of a tribal tied-bra bandeau top + loincloth look since the stein's design was more tribal-looking as well. Experimented with some cuter eye looks too, but what worked best was more of a narrowed, elegant eye shape.
The third image (right) was drawn midway through, when the body shape was done and I needed to figure out how the clothing and hair was going to work on her final form. I finally added in the tail too, but ended up changing that again later, haha. Also, there was a last-minute switch from a loincloth to a sarong skirt...

This is a wonderful progression set up for your mini-stein mug. I agree that the choice of a skirt around her waist is more interesting than the loin cloth concept and adding those little pads to her hands and feet might have been more troublesome to make in the model.
