Part of a temporary exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This was the actual capsule from the second Mercury Project flight. Upon returning from its short 15 minute flight, problems with a hatch caused water to come in and the capsule to sink to the bottom of the ocean. It remained there for years, until it was brought up and restored.

I saw the documentary on the raising of Liberty Bell 7. They had to remove the self-destruct charges in the capsule, before it was raised.
They were in the capsule to prevent the Soviets from getting it, and steeling the technology of the time.
When you were there, did they mention if the exhibit is coming to other states? I'd love to see it in the San Francisco Bay Area. We really never get exhibits like this. I'm a big-time NASA manned spaceflight fan.
One time the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park obtained the King Tut exhibit due to the efforts of the late clothing magnet, Cyril Magnon. If it were not for him, people in the area never would have seen it.
I was luck to see it as a little kid when it got here.
