We ventured out into the wind and cold today to visit Wast Water and it was very very windy, my trousers were flapflapping around my legs. But we braved it enough for a couple of pictures at this spot, I'm glad I took my monopod as I was getting nudged around by the wind at this point.
Very happy with the results though, I've taken the same image in Sepia along with black and white which I'll upload too *wag wags*

Try a monopod too .. they are much faster to set up and provide a reasonably steady base.. I find tripods are good if your staying in one place to take loads of pictures (rally events / airshows etc.) monopods are handy if you're walking around someplace and you don't have to keep folding the legs and adjusting everything.
I bought a monopod with three snaps which can be unlocked to release it and its a good 6ft tall when fully released :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Giottos-GTM...../dp/B001CAOV3O <<< similar to the one I bought a few years ago .. if the link doesn't work search for Giottos monopods and you should find it through google.
