Or maybe FA isn't sinking. Maybe people in this fandom are a little too eager to flail and run in every direction whenever anything changes in a way they weren't personally in control of, as has been seen a million times before.

It kinda reminds me of that "Better Late Than Never" Kung Fu Panda comic. Hundreds of free pages of art that people increasingly hated because the story wasn't going the way each of them wanted it to go... and yet refused to stop watching or complaining about. There wasn't anything really wrong with the story or the art, and it was free to view or not to view. Yet people flailed and screamed and made threats against the artist simply because the story wasn't following EACH of their requirements at the same time.

FA isn't any worse than it's been. It's also not specifically any better, IMVU or not. Hopefully this will change. People are going to be mad about SOMETHING on this site forever though, and no matter how mad they get... they always seem to hang around, if only to complain.

tl;dr version? Why are you still here if you don't like this place? It's like stepping in shit, then standing in it and yelling about how much you hate standing in shit, while the sun goes down and people walk by you looking at you as if you're crazy.

I'm here for the same reason many others are: This is where the art is.

A few artists I watch manage multiple accounts: FA, Weasyl, Tumblr. But many don't - many use FA as a main/only place of activity. Ironically the reason that happens is because this is where most people are.
Chicken or the egg argument, really. Its debatable whether or no FA is getting worse. I luckily have adblock, but many people are complaining about being irrelevant ads clogging up the display of art. Also thats a terrible comparison because BLTN was on the whole enjoyed by a wide majority of its readers. Yes, you had a few scrublords screaming about their not being enough sex, but as loud as they were, their numbers were few.

FA, on the other hand is opposite - most users have issues with the site whether it be the way its ran, the physical code and structure, or the lack of features that many have been promised, but never implemented. If FA was a comic, it would be poorly drawn, terribly written and yet viewed by a majority of the fandom. FA is grandfathered into the position it has as an online hub for the community, it'll take a huge and long lasting FUBAR to make the community. Not because it has any real redeeming qualities, but because furries are afraid of and adverse to change.

I can't really argue with you there, except to say that furries aren't afriad of or adverse to change, but more chaotically inclined; they tend to make sudden, violent changes, then slide back into their previous patterns if left to themselves. It's why you see artists give up on the fandom or quit this site for whatever reason (usually drama based), then re-appear eventually.

As for my BTLN comparison, I think it's spot on. Those people, much like those furries who give the whole a bad name, eventually dragged the story into a huge amount of (sometimes weird) sex. They were maybe less than the overall number, but they complained enough until the artist first tried to escape them all, taking a long hiatus, then just sorta gave up, drawing whatever people requested.

Yes, people here have been promised a lot of things. They were in that comic as well, and simply asked to wait. Which they refused to do. When the artist took their break, they cursed and hounded them still, as if they could somehow badmouth someone who wasn't there anymore into making things go the way they wanted it; kinda like how people are STILL badmouthing Dragoneer, even though he's not really in charge here anymore.

Of course it's not an exact comparison, and it's flavored by my own personal views. I understand that. But there's some similarities that I feel exist there. As for FA being unlikely to go away short of some massive mistake? It's more likely that people will slowly begin to influence the site into something they want, now that IMVU is in control of things. It won't be perfect, but if even this new company doesn't shape the site to what it's customers want, *THEN* FA will fail, because everyone will leave.

Idk, I kinda like it. It's nice to see the site change with the times.

I think users have an expectation of you as the site's main rep to IMVU that you would make a strong case against using this form of advertising block on the layout.

I don't expect you to publicly stand against IMVU's layout requirement, but at least privately let them know that we're pretty pissed off at how much it disrespects the content contributors.

IMVU could have decided to use interrupter horizontal ads beneath the submissions but before the comments or even placed the box ad to the right or left of the description box without compromising the layout as strongly as the sidebar does.

What has been done here is a direct visual assault and its no wonder content contributors are upset. IMVU's requirements of your team in this change are not good.

I don't have to. The enormous, pointless sidebar erection is also seen in the classic UI. Nevermind a few missing buttons like "select all journals", or "global remove selected items" not working.

Yeah, literally this broke the site.
The javascript is screwing up (when it takes you to a new page to reply to a comment? yeah, that) and the missing buttons are really screwing with productivity, useability, and ease of access.

Not to mention the side bar itself is BAD design. Any graphic designer (or student like myself) can tell you that you'd get shat on for pulling something like this.
YOU NEVER make the most important element of a page share the limelight with another. That's like saying it's "not as important anymore"; it's just bad visual hierarchy.
And the fact that it's off-center is really screwing with myself and a lot of other people. x____x

When the browser is set to half the screen (let's say a LOT of people who multitask using the pc - including artists - do), sidebar actually eats half the screen. It's simply outrageous.

Previously the site allowed you to view the full-sized image by scrolling it. New one resizes it down, which is incredibly frustrating. "Art site" ffs...

If you have any input on the design of the site still, make sure the actual art is at the forefront of people's pages, and don't make it smaller. Actually, folks have been saying all over that you can set up some kind of custom block to block that element so the whole sidebar goes *POOF* and vanishes when it reaches your browser.

I've never used adblock (good mental filter, good pc hygiene) so I can't say more than that. May have to, though, with this mess.

Soon there will be false download buttons and you have to close out of ads to view journals.

IMVU's fault more than FA's fault... but jesus, what are they thinking? This is the type of thoughtless, user-abusing decision which will absolutely drive users away, which directly affects advertising income. They should have really applied a much less assaulting advertising style to the submission layout. (and the sidebar needs to go right back down beside the description box again, not fight for layout space with the art.

I wouldn't mind the side bar if it didn't have another ad in it. Most of the time, the same ad as the one on the top of the page for complete redundancy.
